Formula First in SCCA Calclub 2009

Hi John:

Our last message to you was in June 2009. Since then Eric Boghossian & I have completed the regional race season. Eric attended almost all the regional races for the year, about eleven weekends and I got in six last year. We have refined and sorted our cars and both of us have two excellent engines each after much work by our engine builder.

We only two cars and this year we hope to attract more folks to our class. It is no secret there is a recession on and working together with your group to create larger fields is in everyone’s interest. Arizona Region and Calclub is within SCCA’s Southern Pacific Division. This past year Calclub extended recognition to VARA (Vintage Automobile Racing Association) racing licenses for regional racing to encourage larger car counts at their events. I am confident that I could get Calclub and perhaps VARA as well to accept ASA drivers on the same basis.

We have one other driver with a First in San Francisco region who may join us for races. Adding up to three cars to your group would be a significant boost to your past car counts. We need to get together to conform rules for us west coast people. Lets start talking before another year is upon us.

Hi Lou, Happy New Year !! Thanks for the post, It’s nice to see people out there as dedicated as we are in growing the class. You should know that your group is always welcome to run with ours, ASA is not as tuff to deal with as SCCA. You can contact Hurley Hatch at http://www.proautosports.com to see what you would need to do (if anything ) to run with us. We now have 4 First racers that show up to every event, and more on the way. J.P., Terry, Joe, and at least 2 more have cars are in various stages of production. All are tuff competitors and clean racers.

We have a great schedule this year, which includes 2 weekends at INDE, the new track in Willcox, AZ.

So far ASA doesn’t recognize Formula first as a class, they put us the Formula Vee class, but I am trying to get that changed. No matter to me, I just like to race, they can call us whatever they want as long as they let us on the track. I will call you in the next few days.

Do you have a website or blog for FST? if so I would be happy to trade links. Also be sure to check out the new videos of “Inde” and the “wild ride” I posted last week on the main page. And if you have any race videos or photos of your cars, please post them. I have given you permissions to post photos and videos, if you have any trouble let me know and we be happy to help out. If you have any suggestions for this site , I would be happy to hear them as well.

Thanks again for your participation, it is much apprciated, I look forward to racing with your group!

    JKFitz
